The music video caused some controversy as Madonna is seen running away from the paparazzi, a scenario very similar to Diana, The Princess of Wales, when she died in a car accident in Paris in 1997.

Drowned World/Substitute For Love was a moderate success going Top 10 in most countries and peaking at no. 1 in Spain becoming Madonna’s 7th no. 1 hit there.
