...And The Sun - 2026 Danish April label 9-track CD

Their debut album was released in 2022, and the following year it was nominated for the Danish Music Awards in the ‘New Jazz Artist of the Year’ category. Kosmos Trio caused a well-deserved stir with their album *Brev til en ven*. Now the trio is ready for a new chapter with the album *...and the Sun*. Pianist Frede Holger Thorsen has formed a new line-up with Little North bassist Martin Brunbjerg and drummer Jesper Lørup, who also plays with the Estonian pianist Rahel Talts, amongst others.

The trio is characterised by patience, presence and a deep belief in live musical interaction. The album was recorded in a single room and captures the sound of a piano trio with its roots in Nordic jazz. The music strikes a balance between airy melodies, rich harmonies, subtle grooves and a constant interplay between tension and calm.

...and the Sun features nine compositions, with ‘Clairvoyance’ dating all the way back to 2017, when Frede Holger Thorsen wrote it, inspired by a psychic experience his father had had. Several of the tracks are inspired by specific places and moments. The single ‘Gregorian Rhapsody’ was inspired by recordings of Gregorian chant that Thorsen discovered during a visit to Løgumkloster, whilst ‘Impro’ arose from a completely spontaneous improvisation suggested by Martin Brunbjerg during a recording session. When the trio subsequently listened to the recording, they immediately agreed that the track belonged on the album.

The title track …and the Sun reflects the warmth and simplicity at the heart of the project. Built around just two chords, the track encapsulates the gratitude and positive outlook on life that characterise the entire album. That atmosphere is also found in tracks such as ‘Beautiful 9’, which is inspired by the planets and the sun, and ‘For a Minute’, in which Jesper Lørup celebrates life’s small but meaningful moments.

It is an album centred on light, love and gratitude for life. The darker, more contemplative moments are balanced by warmth and optimism, creating music that feels both intimate and grand. With compositions written over many years, a newly formed trio and a recording process based on trust and spontaneity, the album captures a band that is fully present in the moment and dedicated to creating honest music together.
