Novelties - 2026 Danish April label 10-track LP

Emil de Waal Old News returns with Novelties, an album where deep musical roots meet freedom, openness, and innovation. The band’s story is closely tied to the late clarinetist Elith “Nulle” Nykjær Jørgensen, with whom they previously performed and recorded. Together, they reimagined Danish and American classics by composers including Sidney Bechet, John Mogensen, Hans Henrik Ley, Aske Bentzon, Kenneth Knudsen, Fats Waller, Bessie Smith, and Sven Gyldmark. On Novelties, they carry Nulle’s spirit forward with a fresh collection of original compositions that blend tradition and modern expression. The ensemble features Emil de Waal (drums), Jacob Anderskov (keys), Randi Laubek (vocals), Gustaf Ljunggren (guitars/reeds), and Henriette Groth (clarinet) — five leading musicians in the Danish jazz scene.
