The Eleventh Hour - 2026 Danish Nische Records 11-track LP

‘THE ELEVENTH HOUR’ is the debut album from the Swedish/Danish artrock duo MäRK. As both the title and the album cover suggest, MäRK inhabits a dark, shimmering universe. MäRK’s sound is hard to pin down to any one genre, and the duo often use their own label: electronica poetica. A cocktail with hints of electronica and industrial, but also krautrock and trip-hop. Woven into the soundscape are layers of electronically manipulated instruments and field recordings that fuse with the rest of the music, creating a cinematic atmosphere: a battered piano, church organ, accordion, guitar, toy piano, the sound of swallows, a super-8-projector and coins rattling in a cathedral in Lisbon. The lyrics form a dramatic nerve running through MäRK’s universe. They’re in English, with occasional fragments of Swedish and German. The words thunder with poetic rage and indignation at injustice, patriarchy, and the wars of our time, yet also hover vulnerably somewhere between Weltschmerz, faith in change and a glimmer of dawn. MäRK’s music might be described as a poetic encounter between Suicide, Einstürzende Neubauten, Nine Inch Nails, Nina Hagen, and Massive Attack. And as an added sonic twist, the duo has joined forces with Peter Peter, whose crackling guitar features on three tracks. MäRK are: Helena Berglund (vocals, lyrics, accordion, toy piano, guitar) Christian Rønn (piano, keys, organ, guitar, bass) Both are active on Copenhagen’s performance, theatre and music scenes and have previously worked with artists such as Jacob Kirkegaard, Ganga, Ikue Mori (US), Bleeder and Peter Peter.
