On Saturday, February 25, 2006, Thomas Koppel died in Puerto Rico. At the age of 61, he suddenly collapsed over his piano, and thus he was torn from life and interrupted in the midst of creating a number of new musical projects. Among them was a new solo album of piano improvisations.

It was recorded in January 2006 on a Steinway grand piano that had been acquired for the occasion and set up in Thomas' and Annisette's allotment house in Sydhavnen. The record had to be made - not least for Annisette's sake, Thomas said when he stopped by the record company's offices in December. She loved to snuggle around the house when he sat down to play. "Record them now, if for nothing else then for my sake," she had told him, and he had chosen to do so now.

When Thomas died, the work was done, and the album was ready to go to press. It has been the wish of Annisette and the family to release it in exactly the form that Thomas wanted it. Thus, the album's foreword is also written by Thomas himself, and each improvisation on the album is accompanied by a poem from his hand. The only difference compared to the original idea for the album is that it is now also equipped with a small foreword by Annisette.
