Green On Red - Original 1982 US Down There label 7-track LP

Rare original 1982 7-track mini LP - the first psychedelic tinged desert rock release leaning towards a full album by Tuczon, Arizona, foursome - issued by Dream Syndicate leader Steve Wynn on his own Down There label.

Released in 1982, this self-titled 7-track mini-LP stands as the first widely available release by Tucson, Arizona, foursome Green On Red. Moving on from their early punk roots, this record marks the definitive dawning of their signature psychedelic-tinged desert rock sound, which would soon make them central pioneers of the Los Angeles Paisley Underground movement.

The mini-album was recorded in May 1982 at Program Studios in Hollywood, California and issued on Dream Syndicate leader Steve Wynns independent Down There Records imprint - the record is a masterclass in raw, trippy guitar textures, Chris Cacavas’ buzzing, swirling Vox organ, and Dan Stuart’s characteristically abrasive vocals. From the frantic garage energy of 'Death And Angels' to the dark, nocturnal menace of 'Black Night', the album perfectly encapsulates the raw, hallucinatory fringe of early-80s alternative rock.

Crucially for collectors, this copy is a rare, true original US first pressing. It features the distinct circular Down There Records logo on the back cover and completely omits the Enigma Records distribution text found on later 1983 pressings - making it a pristine, top-shelf historical artifact from the absolute dawn of the American indie rock boom..
