Later Than You Think - 2025 UK Young Records label 16-track LP

Two decades and seven albums into his career, John Maus unveils Later Than You Think — a potent work of confrontation, confession, and spiritual reckoning. Written, produced, and recorded in the Ozarks, the 16-track album spans minimalist rigor and grandiose pop gestures, balancing sacred and profane, harmony and dissonance. Themes of grief, justice, faith, and rebirth course through the record, which Maus describes as a search for “the beautiful, the truth, and the real.”

It’s a statement of radical sincerity in a cynical age — a call to believe that meaning still matters. Alongside his reputation as a lo-fi synth-pop cult figure, Maus’s academic background (CalArts, University of Hawaii) informs his unique fusion of intellect and feeling. He’s been sampled by Skepta, admired by Josh Safdie and Natasha Lyonne, and recently featured in the film Friendship via his track ‘Cop Killer’.

With previous releases including Songs, Love Is Real, and Screen Memories, John Maus has long stood at the intersection of absurdity and truth. On Later Than You Think, he goes further — reaching for transcendence with urgency, honesty, and belief.
