Congratulations and thank you, you have just embarked on our child of pain. For IMAGES OF THE WORLD is the record whose frivolity in its making allowed certain things to happen that we would come to regret. After the first two LS albums had identified a specific sound and approach, we wanted to open up, go for greater variety and in new directions. The vinyl record was on the way back, so it was the first time that its natural time limit and side 1/side 2 dramaturgy did not have to be taken into account. But without the familiar framework, we fell into the trap and committed classic CD hubris by releasing an album that was too long, unfocused and - worst of all - momentarily weak.

Hence this newly revised redux edition. Not slavishly faithful to the story, no, there are more significant things at stake than that. Because this first vinyl release finally provides a welcome opportunity to bypass some fatal choices that came to torment our relationship with the record. As a representative of LS, I owe it to Heinz and Hilmer to rectify the design errors that we internally cursed ourselves for having made back then. But most importantly, PICTURES OF THE WORLD will stand noticeably stronger in this concentrated and slimmer version, which plays in length like the regular album, the record should always have been, but unfortunately was not when it was originally released.

So gone is a heel chopped off and a toe clipped, or rather four unloved tracks, no one - rightly - has ever had anything nice to say about. Those tracks can still be found on the original CD, if some self-tormentors really want documentation. Personally, I would never recommend such a frivolous dealing with true crime. So rather put on side 1 of this REDUX release, turn up the volume and enter an album that, heard from here, suddenly seems to offer new qualities and which hopefully finally sounds like a worthy link between DK and Go!. A record that no longer stands disqualifyingly uneven, but maybe even plays like a pretty cool piece of LS from when we were still finding ourselves.
