Afterthoughts- 2024 Danish Isenkram Label 11-track MC

Kruzh'em spent decades creating and perfecting his own tonal and rhythmic language - a dark but pleasant and personally synthesized universe packed with lush, open chords, pointy groove and understated suspense. The inspirational backdrop for his version of minimalistic electronics was soaked up during 80s hip-hop culture, 90s electro futurism and the more recent wave of modern funk. Spending his youth releasing legendary mixtapes, performing live hardware electro and jumpstarting various music labels, he has gradually grown to be an experienced figure in the Danish underground landscape.

On 'Afterthoughts' Kruzh is letting his wisdom flow in new ways, using his signature ingredients to cook up a quite unexpected dish. The mood is calm, introspective, funky and contemplative. Lurky basslines, sequenzed jazz motifs and neatly placed 808 kicks seem to patiently guide the listener through his digital underwater jungle of dubby frequencies. There is an unparalleled metallic warmth and emotional complexity hiding in these carefully detailed shapes, questioning other and perhaps more clarified ways of being banging. This exciting new and mature direction might place Kruzh'em halfway in the chill out room, looking back at the dancefloor, but could arguably also be his boldest output yet.
