Kaizers Orchestra took some time between their third and fourth album. After touring heavily and being dropped by Universal Germany, the band decided to try something else and hooked up with Canadian producer and engineer Mark Howard (Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, Iggy Pop). Maskineri was recorded at Planet Roc in former East Berlin, and mixed at Jim Henson studios in LA. The album was praised by critics and the band was credited for their willingness to explore new musical territory. Although Maskineri in posterity has been regarded as somewhat of a side track, it was still a crucial part of the bands process  and produced some great songs.
