The album is an unreserved declaration of love for the reggae music that Natasja was captivated by from childhood and dedicated most of her life to, first in the girl group No Name Requested with Mukupa and then as a solo artist.

"Shooting Star" is her second English-language studio album with the tracks Natasja managed to record before her untimely death. Originally, this album was planned as an "international upgrade" of her debut album, "Release". However, the album came to consist predominantly of new songs, most of which were produced by Pharfar, while international reggae producers such as Bulby, Hamilton & Forbes (Dangerzone) and Mad Professor have also left their mark on "Shooting Star".
