Hard to get 2000 US Maverick/Warner Bros. Advance Only Promo 12” vinyl of American Pie including 2 remixes by Victor Calderone.

American Pie was originally written by Don McLean in 1971 and became a huge hit. Madonna’s friend and co-star, Rupert Everett talked Madonna into making a cover of American Pie for their movie The Next Best Thing. She produced the song together with William Orbit.

The song was first single from the soundtrack and became a worldwide hit going no. 1 in 15 countries like UK, Australia, Germany, Austria and more. In the USA Warner Bros. decided not to release it as a single to help sales of the soundtrack for The Next Best Thing, which made the song peak at no. 29 on Billboard Top 100 due to strong radio play.

American Pie wasn’t part of Madonna’s next album project Music, but due to the big success of the song it was decided to include it on the Music album in European countries.
