Undercurrent - 2017 European DOL label 8-track LP Reissue

2017 DOL label 8-track vinyl LP reissue of Jazz pianist Bill Evans and guitarist Jim Halls superb 1962 collaboration - combining the 8-track stereo issue - with the bonus sessions " Stairway To The Stars" and " I’m Getting Sentimental Over You."

The duo had first recorded together in July of 1959, during the making of John Lewis’ LP Odds Against Tomorrow, and the two musicians also participated on Gunther Schuller’s Jazz Abstractions (recorded in December of 1960). However, those were big band albums and had no space at all for any real interaction between the pianist and guitarist. Undercurrent was their third studio encounter and one of their most rewarding collaborations.

In his November 26, 1962 review for Down Beat magazine jazz critic Pete Welding states: "This collaboration between Evans and Hall has resulted in some of the most beautiful, thoroughly ingratiating music it has been my pleasure to hear..."

DOL is a budget label - the album is pressed on 180 gram virgin vinyl and packed in a gatefold picture cover... which preserves  the original's stunning artwork - based on Toni Frissell's photograph "Weeki Wachee Spring, Florida".
