Nuages - 2017 European Jazz Images Label 12-track LP

2016 reissue of Rainhardts 'The Great Artistry of..." recorded in Paris, march 10 - 11, 1953 and subsequently produced by Norman Granz on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean - an subsequently issued as a 10" in the USA on the legendary Clef label.
The recordings features superb and charming guitar equilibrist in the center of a quartet with a rhythm section featuring Pierre Michelot on double bass and Jean-Louis-Viale on drums - pianist Maurice Vander makes these recordings remarkable as Django's most most common setting is with the all string quintet of 'Le Hot Club de France'...  Django s use of an electrically amplified guitar, give these last sessions a more intimate and modern sound.

Nuages' includes four bonus recordings from a similar piano based setting from april the same year - with The Decca quintet - and featuring Django on electric guitar... these are the only existing recordings pairing the guitarist with celebrated French pianist Martial Solal. It would also be Django s last recording session ever. Django died shortly after at the age of 43.

The album pressed onto 180 gram vinyl and presented with new artwork in a gatefold picture cover - nice.
