Scarce original 1978 US RCA Red Seal limited edition LP featuring David Bowie's adaption of Sergei Prokofiev's 1936 composition "Peter and the Wolf", as well as Benjamin Britten‘s "The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra" - it makes fine sense that Bowie said that his readings were a Christmas present for his son, Duncan Jones - then 7 years old** - as both pieces are specifically geared to "introduce children to the sounds of the individual instruments in the symphony orchestra."* . Music for both pieces is performed by the Philadelphia Orchestra conducted by Eugene Ormandy.

Joe Viglione reviewing the album for Allmusic found the album a 'remarkable and well-crafted project' writing "...as for Bowie's performance, it is splendid. He tells the well-known fable with his usual eloquence and style, and gives instructions at the beginning for kids to understand how the music corresponds to characters in the story. The accompaniment from the Philadelphia Orchestra is first rate..."***

Vinyl is pressed on green vinyl with the generic red company labels with top right 'Nipper' logo as well as top outline, large RCA print and left label solid mid size 'Red Seal' text. As this copy is still factory sealed, vinyl is supposed to be housed in a generic company add inner sleeve - accompanied by illustrated liner notes sheet. Outer shrink has intact sticker advertising the 'Limited Edition Green Vinyl' format.

Condition: Still Factory Sealed (Cover VG++):

This album is still in its original - unopened - shrink wrapping... vinyl is considered mint - labels likewise mint. Corners have mild dents underneath the shrink wrapping - hence the close to mint cover grading - sticker on the outside of the wrapping is perfect.
