Rare Original 1968 US Impulse label 5-track stereo LP reissue - of iconic American saxophonists third album on the Impulse label, originally released in 1962 - featuring the composition "Tunji" dedicated to Nigerian drummer, Babatunde Olatunji.

Allmusic's Michael G. Nastos used the phrase "brilliantly conceived and rendered" and concluded that the "extraordinary recording? historically falls between the albums Olé Coltrane and Impressions - completing a triad of studio efforts that are as definitive as anything Coltrane ever produced, and highly representative of him in his prime."

Vinyl has the generic orange rimmed black company labels with 'i!' logos in white rim areas.
Labels have top integrated colourband boxed company name-logos and "A Product of ABC Records, Inc. New York, N.Y. 10019 - Made in USA" along lower labelrim.

Vinyl has a combination of machine stamped (ms) and hand etched (he) matrix information - "Van Gelder" is machine stamped in the deadwax on side 2. Vinyl also has "LW" etched, suggesting that this copy was manufactured by metal parts - fathers, mothers and stampers - supplied by the Long Island, NY, based Long Wear Stamper Corp. There is no pressing plant nor any mother & stamper identifiers.

Trail off info is as follows:
Side 1: AS21A (ms) AS-21-B LW (he)
Side 2: AS-21-B (he) STEREO (ms) LW (he) VANGELDER (ms)

Vinyl is housed in generic company add inner sleeve, and ultimately in sturdy outer laminated inner pasted gatefold cover.

Condition: VG++ (Vinyl and Labels/ VG++ (Cover):

Vinyl is bright and shiny - has a touch of sleeve inflicted scuffing which basically shows that the album was used directly from the company inner sleeve.

Labels has almost no signs of handling - no immediate spindletraces - extremely close to mint - suggesting that this copy probably was listened to max a few times and then stored.

Vinyl is overall graded near mint.

Cover is extremely attractive - laminate is almost intact? a couple of small areas of laminate lift - very little laminate creasing.

Cover has almost perfect seams - no wear, no shelling? a little sun discolouration to spine? hardly any rubbing to corners... perfect inner spread - simply a superb copy. Cover is graded near mint.
