M144 - 2016 German Shadoks label 20-track Deluxe 2LP Set Reissue

Superb 2015 German Shadoks label 20-track vinyl 2LP reissue of Copenhagen based progressive rock combos debut free-jazz psychedelic rock meltdown - in our view one of the finest rock albums of the era originally only issued by the Sonet label in 1969.

'M144' is hailed as a heavy progressive jazz-rock milestone in Scandinavian rock. Author of 'Scented Gardens Of The Mind', Dag Erik Asbjørnsen, wrote 'a surprisingly well-developed album...' featuring '...contrasting styles such as pop, blues, soul and psychedelia.' and 'Needless to say, this was a milestone in Danish rock and indispensable for any collector of Scandinavian rock.'


This issue is the perfect substitute if you find the original way too expensive - artwork is manufactured as close to the original as possible and in some ways superior in quality: 180 g vinyls are manufactured with replicas of the generic all red company 'trumpet' logo labels with top fat fonted company name - black centre and white rim text.

Vinyls are accompanied by fold out band motif poster, extensive biographical liner notes by Claus Rasmussen and sheet featuring the uncut 'knight' - housed in richly illustrated lyric inner sleeves - plenty of great era photographs - everything held in a superb deluxe gatefold cover which opens up featuring the original pop-up theatre artwork, needles to say that the Shadoks label just pushes the limits of how gorgeous reissues are manufactured - handnumbered inside the cover and limited to 600 copies only.

"Burnin Red Ivanhoe is a Danish progressive rock band which was formed by Karsten Vogel in 1967 in Copenhagen, Denmark. After a couple of years touring, the band were signed by the Sonet label in 1969 and released their debut album M144. In the UK, the group's record distribution was done by Dandelion Records after Peel heard their debut album. They also received some positive write-ups in the Melody Maker. After several albums, the group split in 1974 with Karsten Vogel forming Secret Oyster. One of the earliest (if not the earliest) progressive rock album of Scandinavia and certainly of Denmark (along with Culpepper's Orchard), BRI's debut album is also notable for being a double one (fighting with Norway's Junipher Greene for that title) and is filled with very diverse influences. Resolutely rock in spirit, the album oscillates between the blues, soul, jazz (or more likely jazz-rock) and many more folkloric styles, without actually being folky. When BRI released their debut in 1969 the band existed already for two years. Thus it's not surprising that they've gathered already enough material to fill a double album. Originally their music was rooted in blues-rock with a strong psyche folk influence as demonstrated in most of the shorter tracks. Perhaps one of the most important album from Denmark and for the first time reissued with the original POP-UP sleeve, which was quiet a nightmare to produce.
