"Intellectual Self-Mutilation" was Ballet Mécanique last studio recording ever, originally planned to be released as a self-financed 7"-single in relation to the split of the group in the autumn of 1982. However, at the time this project was never realized due to financial reasons, an intention Nat Inc. Productions thereby restored in the week before Sony-BMG's release of the 2CD reissue of Ballet Mécanique's "The Icecold Waters Of The Egocentric Calculation". The b-side is a rare live recording of the track 'Leathern' recorded live in Saltlageret in the spring of 1982.

The 7" comes with a repro of the original press info on the groups split-up in nice gatefold picture sleeve numbered on back and with live-shot in the foldout. This is numbers from 11 - 25.
