Mark Murphy’s time in the UK during the 1960s played a pivotal role in shaping British jazz. The renowned American vocalist moved to London in 1963, quickly establishing himself on the scene with frequent performances at iconic venues such as Ronnie Scott’s Club and regular appearances on BBC Radio. Manchester’s music circuit was also a thriving centre for jazz during the sixties, hosting a mix of prestigious American and British acts. Among its standout venues, the jazz-inspired bar Club 43 became a hub for intimate concerts, particularly for those US musicians doing their European tours, and included this memorable series of shows by Mark Murphy in 1966.

Over six decades later, these previously unheard recordings of Murphy at Club 43 have been unearthed from the venue archives and are set for a limited edition double LP release. For collectors and scat enthusiasts alike, this is a rare chance to own a first - and only - pressing of a true jazz vocal master, presented on heavyweight black edition vinyl with numbered gatefold artwork.
