72 Seasons - 2023 European Blackened label Violet "Midnight" Vinyl 2LP set

Metallica's 12th studio album, 72 Seasons, will be released on April 14, 2023 via the band's own label Blackened Recordings. Produced by Greg Fidelman with Hetfield & Ulrich, the album is an epic journey of over 77 minutes spread over 12 tracks. 72 Seasons is Metallica's first full-length album of new material since 2016's Hardwired... To Self-Destruct.

72 Seasons has been announced with the precursor single "Lux Æterna", a short, sharp blast that distills 40 years of Metallica down to three and a half minutes.

Frontman James Hetfield has described the concept as a picture of the first 18 years of our lives, the first 72 seasons when people form their true or false selves. The years in life when core attitudes and the view of the world really take shape, and at the same time some years that adulthood constantly seems like a reflection on or a reaction to. We can either be trapped in childhood or break free from the bonds and burdens these formative years present.
