2005 'album from enigmatic psychedelic-folk ensemble Wooden Wand And The Vanishing Voise, and the group?s most collaborative release in their prolific and ever-evolving career. On The Flood, the group continues their twisted and droning take on proto-spiritual, cryptic, folkisms, maintaining the ideals of goodness and decency they?re known for.
The Flood was written and, to a large degree, recorded, while holed up in isolation from the world. Strange, then, that it resonates so strongly with specific incidents occurred and occurring within said world, well beyond the band's sphere of self-imposed social hibernation.'

'It is notable that The Flood was conceived in tandem with (but ignorant of) one great national disaster, and will be unveiled to the world shortly following another. The record is only coincidentally topical, yet touches on strange synchronicities. In other words, it could be argued that The Flood is recorded evidence of artistic clairvoyance.'

On The Flood, Wooden Wand and the Vanishing Voice imagine an updated Sodom and Gommorah, while the world itself changes rapidly from sunlit to unlit. Landlords and evildoers are left to fend against a vengeful God, the pure of heart vanish suddenly, and lesser seekers struggle against tides of fire to find their place within this new and mysterious wasteland. Elsewhere, the well-meaning sun is witness to the suffering of man and seeks to embrace and heal the earth. But it lowers it's mighty arms to cradle the wounded globe, only to set more of it ablaze.

It is important to note that the band does not cast itself as characters within this scene, but remain omniscient narrators - their only role is as painters, poets, and criers of this half-imagined apocalypse.

It is rumored that the band was so freaked out by what has transpired during the many stages of creation of The Flood that they have since drastically and permanently altered their writing process. Buy two copies of the album and bury one in your time capsule while time is still on your side. This is folk music.
