2015 reissue of Van Morrisons major label solo effort from 1969 - recorded with producer Lewis Merenstein and a set of jazz players includings former Blue Note era Eric Dolphy bassist Richard Davis, percussionist Warren Smith, Jr., who used to work with Charles Mingus and Modern Jazz Quartet drummer Connie Kay.
The music on 'Astral Weeks' has been described as 'trance-like folk jazz set to "impressionistic, free-flowing" lyrics'* - initially critically acclaimed but obscure - later crystallized as a major work dealing with generalized longing - 'an album where spirituality, mysticism, and death intertwine on a vast expanding plane.'
